A Streetcar Named Desire
Stanley and Stella could not have been happier until Blanche, Stella’s sister, shows up for an extended visit. Blanche’s efforts to adjust to their small, dilapidated apartment are chaotic and fruitless. Tennessee Williams’ most popular and successful play has been told around the world on both stage and screen.
Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski, two of the most famous iconic characters, are brought to life by Claudia Liu and Clément Phanavanh as they speed towards a psychological collision. Survival is questionable. Loni Berry’s adaptation features five characters, including Stella Kowalski (Sarinya Olsson), Harold Mitchell (Matas Danielius) and the Singer/Narrator (Duncan Allan). Set in modern day New Orleans, the play takes place in February.
Masked Ball
February is Mardi Gras season, for which New Orleans is famous. The wild parties and parades include costumes, masks, and the traditional beads. Various versions of this festival are celebrated extensively in Europe and the Americas, and to a lesser extent in Africa and Asia (India, Indonesia, Israel and Turkey).
The season lasts for a couple of weeks, but the big events happen on the weekend before, and leading up to, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, always 47 days before Easter. This year, it will be February 25th. Without question, the most famous festival in the United States is in New Orleans.
Culture Collective Studio will be celebrating by including a Masked Ball, where the audience participates by wearing a mask and a costume (optional). Either bring your own mask, or wear one provided by the theatre. Food and drink, catered by the Chatrium Hotel, is included. There will be a prize for the best costume. Perfect date for Valentine’s Day!!!
